Social Justice Three-Part Webinar Series - Part III

Overview

Two hands crossed behind a back painted rainbow colors

Rights for Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity Refugees: Social Work with LGBTIQ Asylum Seekers

Self-Study
NYSED and ASWB/ACE Approved for 1 CE Contact Hour

Live webinar originally aired on May 19, 2016

The videotaped presentation will be viewable online from a computer via streaming video. Once your registration and payment is received, a link will be forwarded for access to the video and instructions for taking a post-test. All online continuing education programs require completion of a post-test for receipt of credits.

As rights for people living according to their authentic sexual orientation/gender identity are increasing across the globe (e.g. universal marriage equality, employment protection), further understanding of how to work with LGBTIQ people seeking asylum in the United States is crucial for social workers. This workshop will give an overview of LGBTIQ rights around the world and then discuss how social workers can best advocate and build networks to support these cases. Specific case examples from work in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation to the United Nations will be highlighted.
