Global Vision Statement

NYU Silver School of Social Work

The Silver School of Social Work is committed to providing a leading role in the NYU Global Network University. The mission of the Silver School is to educate professionals in a global perspective for social work practice with individuals, families, groups and communities and to provide leadership in the development and transmission of scientific knowledge relevant to social work practice in complex urban environments, both local and global.

Guided by a commitment to social and economic justice and human rights, we strive to build on the inherent strengths and resilience among asset-vulnerable populations by engaging in research and practice that focuses on multi-level, evidence-informed interventions that are grounded in an ecological/person-in-environment perspective. Our work is cross disciplinary and takes into account local and cultural contexts. Our expertise is in the areas of:

  • Poverty/inequality
  • Health and mental health
  • Substance abuse
  • Child welfare
