Requirements for Admission

All freshman candidates for undergraduate admission must submit the following:

  • Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study and nonrefundable $65 application fee ($75 for applicants outside the US)
  • Official high school transcript (and Equivalency Diploma test scores if applicable)
  • Official transcripts of all college work for which academic credit has been earned
  • Official score reports for two SAT Subject exams (of the student's choice) from the College Entrance Examination Board or the ACT (with writing test) from the American College Test Assessment Program
  • High School Report/Counselor Recommendation Form
  • Teacher Recommendation Form
  • Personal statements/essay
  • Undergraduate Statistical Form (paper version of NYU application only)

Applicants for admission to NYU will now be able to submit:

  • The SAT Reasoning Test or
  • The ACT (with writing test) or
  • Three SAT Subject Test scores (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language test of the student’s choice) or
  • Three AP exam scores* (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language of the student’s choice)

For students who choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores, the following tests will satisfy the literature or humanities score requirement:

  • Subject Tests: English Literature, US History, World History
  • AP Exams: English Literature, European History, US History, World History

For students who choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores, the following tests will satisfy the mathematics or science score requirement:

  • Subject Tests: Math Level 1 or 2, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • AP Exams: Biology, Calculus AB or BC, Chemistry, Physics B or C

*The AP exams must be taken prior to the senior year to be applicable during the admissions cycle.
