Overview

Managing Emotional Dysregulation in Youth is a videotaped webinar presented by Dr. Judith Siegel, Professor, NYU Silver School of Social Work, and Director of the School's Post-Master's Certificate Program in Child and Family Therapy. Symptoms of behavioral explosion, implosion and dissociation will be reviewed and examined in terms of emotional regulation.Universal triggers (rejection, failure/criticism) will be discussed as themes that are particularly relevant to children and adolescents. Trauma triggers will be examined through the perspective of memory networks and dysregulation. Techniques for helping youth down-escalate and return to a calm state will be discussed. This information will be particularly helpful for social workers who work in a setting with high-risk youth, or youth who have been exposed to extreme stress or trauma. The live webinar version was originally broadcast on May 20, 2015.
