OVERVIEW

This conference will attract social workers and human services professionals who provide services to Veterans, Military Service Personnel and their larger support networks (e.g. spouses, children, and extended family). It will increase the knowledge base on the intersection of specific Veteran and Military Service issues (e.g. substance abuse, PTSD, homelessness, families, housing, employment, education, advocacy, wellness, alternate paths to care, family violence).

The mutually dependent systems affecting Military Service Members and Veterans include familial, economic, educational, political, health, and mental health. Now more than ever, as Service Members return from military theaters around the globe, the role of social work and human services in these systems is integral to successful re-entry. This conference will explore social work interventions at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. The voice of Veterans as well as Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard members themselves will play an important role in all conference presentations.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Increase quality of care to Military Service Personnel, Veterans and their
support networks through plenary and focused workshops.
  • Define best practice interventions for Military Service Personnel, Veterans and their support networks.
  • Organize policy and practice ideas to support knowledge advancement for the field.
