Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Journal and Book Publishing

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Journal and Book Publishing

June 9, 2011, 9:00AM - 1:00PM

This hands-on, four hour workshop will help participants learn the basics of professional publishing either in journals or books. It is aimed at clinicians, academicians, and other social workers interested in sharing their knowledge via publications. Following a didactic lecture, structured exercises will be used to help participants learn how to move from having a "germ of an idea" or an interesting topic to having a publishable paper or book. Participants are encouraged to come with an idea of what they would like to publish or an actual draft of a paper. The workshop will assist participants in clarifying publishing goals and objectives as well as gaining specific guidelines and tips that will help them become published authors. [Registration is limited to 20 participants].

This workshop will be led by Dr. S. Lala Straussner, Professor and Director, Post- Master Certificate Program in The Clinical Approaches to Addictions, NYU Silver School of Social Work. Dr. Straussner has authored/edited 16 books and numerous articles in professional journals, and is the founding editor of the Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions. Her most recent books include Children of Substance Abusing Parents: Dynamics and Treatment (co- edited with C. Fewell, Springer Press) and Understanding Mass Violence: A Social Work Perspective (with N. Phillips; published by Allyn & Bacon). She has a private clinical and supervisory practice in Manhattan and consults with individuals interested in professional writing.

The registration fee for this workshop is $65.
