Biography
Jennifer Manuel is an Associate Professor at NYU Silver.
Dr. Manuel’s research focuses on the delivery and quality of treatment services among persons with co-occurring substance use and mental health needs. In 2014, she was awarded a NIDA Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) to adapt and pilot test an assertive outreach and linkage program, Critical Time Intervention, for individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health needs following residential substance abuse treatment. Dr. Manuel’s future work will focus on implementation research to optimize the delivery of existing evidence-based interventions, such as CTI, for multiple contexts in community practice.
Dr. Manuel is a member of the Council on Social Work Education, Society for Social Work and Research, and AcademyHealth. In 2013, she was selected to be an early career reviewer for the National Institutes of Health.
During her doctoral studies, Dr. Manuel was funded by an NIMH T32 Pre-doctoral Fellowship in Mental Health Services Research. She also received funding from the New York State Office of Mental Health to complete her dissertation research on treatment adherence and continuity of care among individuals with co-occurring disorders receiving integrated treatment. Dr. Manuel completed three years of postdoctoral work at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Department of Psychiatry, where she led a statewide initiative to develop, implement, and evaluate a model for transitioning clients from assertive community treatment to less intensive services. Prior to joining the NYU Silver faculty, Dr. Manuel was an assistant professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work.
She earned her MSW and PhD from Columbia University School of Social Work and her BS from Texas Christian University.
