Coverdell Fellowship Brings Former Peace Corps Volunteers to NYU Silver

In September 2016, NYU enrolled its first cohort in the NYU Peace Corps Coverdell Fellowship Program, which offers a select group of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers leadership development programming and financial support while pursuing a master's degree. NYU Silver is one of seven NYU graduate schools participating in the fellowship and was pleased to welcome Coverdell Fellows Anita Virmani and Emily Hehmeyer to its MSW program.

Silver School MSW Students Present at Intercultural, Interdisciplinary Behavioral Health Conference

On December 6, 2016, three second-year MSW students in the Silver School’s Buenos Aires Semester Abroad program presented at a conference on “Substance Abuse and Mental Health: Interdisciplinary Clinical and Community Approaches in Buenos Aires and New York,” that was hosted by Centro de Vida, an community-based outpatient addiction treatment center in Buenos Aires.

  • Spotlight on Scholarship

    NYU Silver Associate Professor Dr. Victoria Stanhope and colleagues, including PhD Candidate Mimi Choy Brown and Assistant Professors Dr. Stacey Barrenger and Dr. Jennifer Manuel, recently co-authored an article in the journal Implementation Science that evaluated New York State behavioral health organizations' use of training and technical assistance provided by the state Department of Health-funded Clinic Technical Assistance Center (CTAC) to facilitate implementation of clinical and business practices required by the state’s Medicaid redesign plan.

  • Meet MSW Students and Social Entrepreneurs Adina Lichtman and Terrance Coffie

    Adina Lichtman and Terrance Coffie, both of whom earned their BS from NYU Silver in May 2016 and will graduate from the School’s Advanced Standing MSW program in May 2017, are social entrepreneurs. As an NYU sophomore in November 2014, Adina established Knock Knock Give a Sock, a non-profit organization that facilitates the collection and distribution of socks to people experiencing homelessness. The following year, in partnership with Terrance, she began organizing periodic “Meet Your Neighbor” dinners to bring together people who are experiencing homelessness with those who are not in order to foster discussion and reduce the stigma associated with homelessness. Adina and Terrance recently sat down with NYU Silver’s Office of Communications to talk about their efforts.
