Associate Professor Michael Lindsey Elected as Member-at-Large of the Board of the Society for Social Work and Research
January 13, 2015
Associate Professor Michael A. Lindsey has been elected member-at-large to the Board of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR), an organization dedicated to the advancement of social work research. His three-year term will begin on February 1, 2015.
SSWR is comprised of more than 1,300 members representing more than 200 universities and institutions around the world. Lindsey will join six other members-at-large who, along with SSWR officers, comprise SSWR’s board of directors. As a member-at-large, Lindsey will have voting privileges, and will be responsible for interpreting the society’s bylaws and formulating policy for the organization.
Lindsey’s research focuses on child and adolescent mental health services, with a particular concentration on the prohibitive factors and barriers to treatment that lead to unmet mental health needs among at-risk youth with severe psychiatric illnesses such as depression. He has received funding from the National Institute of Mental Health and the Annie E. Casey Foundation to develop and test a treatment engagement intervention that promotes access to—and use of—mental health services by depressed adolescents in school- and community-based treatment centers.
