MSW International Orientation Schedule

Below please find information and resources regarding orientation for new international students. All new international students are required to attend MSW International Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 30, as well as the two-day MSW Orientation.

9:00 - 9:30 AM | Check-In & Breakfast
Location: 1 Washington Sq. North, Student Lounge (Garden Level)
 
9:30 - 10:15 AM | Student Introductions
An opportunity for the international students to meet one another and get to know a bit more about each other in order to facilitate more support and camaraderie.
Location: Student Lounge
 
10:15 - 10:45 AM | Welcome & Introductions
Welcome to Silver and to the International program from Dean James Jaccard, Associate Dean James Martin, Assistant Dean Courtney O'Mealley, Dr. Mara Gottlieb, Takako Kono and Sonia Bhansali.

10:45 - 11:20 AM | Scholarships & Financial Aid
Carrie Prendergast and Byron Cortes will give quick introductions of themselves and their roles, answer a few frequently asked questions and personalized questions.

11:20 - 11:30 AM | Break

11:30 AM - 12:15 PM | Office of Global Services Presentation
This workshop will be provided by a staff member for OGS and will discuss any issues pertaining to visas and additional necessary requirements for being at Silver as an international student. Time will be available for individual questions.

12:15 - 1:15 PM | Lunch

1:15 - 2:00 PM | Academic Planning Presentation
Brief presentations by a Policy and an HB instructor will be followed by a brief overview of the program plus some tips for being prepared for the start of coursework.
Location: Room 112
 
2:00 - 2:45 PM | Silver International Student Community Presentation
This will be an opportunity for first-year international students to hear from second-year international students about their first year experience and ask any questions they might have. Also an opportunity for the second-year students to offer any tips, suggestions, contact info that might be of assistance.

2:45 - 2:50 PM | Break - Cookies and Tea
Location: Room 112
 
2:50 - 3:30 PM | Field Internship/Intro to SW Practice in the US Presentation
This presentation will help students to better understand the internship aspect of the MSW degree, including expectations, learning objectives, and examples of possible placements.

3:30 - 4:30 PM | Campus Tour/Scavenger Hunt
Students will be given the opportunity to find certain landmarks and services in pairs in an effort to better familiarize themselves with the campus and facilities.

4:30 - 5:00 PM | Prizes and Closing
