About the Director
Dr. Raashida Edwards, DSW, LCSW
Dr. Edwards is a sexual trauma therapist who specializes in the treatment of suicidal survivors of childhood sexual abuse, providing them with the necessary support and therapeutic interventions to navigate their complex emotions and experiences.
As the Director of the NYU Silver School of Social Work Advanced Clinical Practice Post-Master's Program, Dr. Edwards plays a crucial role in training future generations of social workers to effectively address and treat sexual trauma. Her work as an Adjunct Lecturer at the NYU Silver School of Social Work, as well as her faculty positions at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies Child and Adolescent Trauma Program and the Integrative Trauma Program, and supervisory role at Big Apple Children Services further highlight her dedication to educating others in the field in the latest research and techniques in trauma therapy.
From the Director:
The Post-Master's Certificate Program in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) is a comprehensive and intensive 18-session course designed for mental health professionals looking to enhance their clinical skills and stay abreast of the latest treatment models and research in the field. The program, which runs from September until May, offers a wide range of topics tailored to both newly graduated and seasoned professionals.
One of the unique aspects of the ACP is its emphasis on critical thinking and exploration of various treatment models without favoring one over the other. Students are exposed to contemporary approaches such as psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy, DBT, CBT, and somatic experiencing, among others. The coursework also delves into important issues such as systemic disparities, the impact of COVID-19 on mental health, and affirmative therapy for LBGTQIA+ individuals.
Furthermore, the program prioritizes in-person classes to foster connections and collaboration among participants, especially after the isolating effects of the pandemic. By providing a diverse curriculum supported by current research, the ACP equips mental health professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to provide effective and culturally competent care to their clients.
Join the ACP and take your practice to the next level today.
