She received her Doctor of Social Welfare (DSW) in Clinical Social Work from the New York University (NYU) Silver School of Social Work and her Master of Science in Social Work from the Columbia University School of Social Work (CUSSW).
Dr. Edwards completed her post-graduate training at New York University, The Ackerman Institute for the Family, Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP), and The Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP). She recently presented her clinical work with professional sex providers who are also adult survivors of prepubescent sexual abuse at the International Psychohistorical Association (IPA) and the American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work (AAPCSW) conferences.
From the Director:
The Post-Master's Certificate Program in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) is an 18-session bi-weekly course scheduled from September until June. The ACP is customized for newly graduated and seasoned mental health professionals.
The program addresses contemporary models of treatment used in both agency and private practice. We do not favor one model over another but instead encourage critical thinking. All models presented highlight issues of race, class, gender, systemic disparities, and the effects of COVID-19 on the micro, mezzo, and macro aspects of mental health. All coursework is supported by their respective current research.
Students will learn psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, object relations theory, contemporary self-psychology, attachment-related treatment, classic DBT, multifamily DBT, CBT and its applications to depression, anxiety, and trauma, affirmative therapy with LBGTQIA+ individuals, somatic experiencing, dissociation and the trans experience, and treatment applications for adult survivors of prepubescent sexual abuse.
Classes are in-person to restore and bolster opportunities for connections lost during the pandemic.
