Overview

Online Certificate Program
NOTE: This program will not be running in the 2021-22 academic year.
This post-master’s certificate program offers comprehensive and eclectic theoretical framework and practice approaches focused on specialized clinical practice skills in engagement, assessment, treatment, and prevention with adolescents and their families. It provides in-depth, culturally competent clinical knowledge and skills in areas of practice most relevant to work with adolescents and their families seen in diverse urban practice settings (health/mental health, psychiatric, youth development, community-based agencies, schools, day/residential treatment) and/or private practice. It is designed for clinicians as well as supervisors and program directors specializing in practice with adolescents.
Program Highlights
- Comprehensive, culturally competent clinical skills in engagement, assessment, treatment, and prevention
- Individual, family, and group skills for this population
- Psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems approaches
- School functioning and school problems; substance use/mis-use
- Case studies
"This program provides a fabulous overview of the unique issues that are tricky to navigate with adolescents, a rethinking of treatment modalities and their combinations, and focuses on issues that are particularly prevalent in adolescence such as depression, acting out, eating disorders, sexuality, and substance abuse. The talented professionals, specialists in their fields, who presented their ideas to us, provided us with valuable information and exposed us to what is current. I will be able to better serve my clients and their families."
- Sharon Kosakoff, MSW ’85, School Social Worker
Program Requirements
This certificate is comprised of 18 sessions over two semesters, running bi-weekly Monday evenings 6:20 - 8:20 pm (dates to be determined). Assignments include weekly readings and a final learning assessment in the form of a case presentation.
