Online Certificate Program
Healthcare Social Work is a complex and dynamic process. Serving on a multidisciplinary team, healthcare social workers engage in care management, discharge planning, bio-psycho-social/spiritual assessments of care needs, and holistic care aimed at supporting individuals and families to maximize health and wellness. The Post-Master’s Certificate in Healthcare Social Work is a two semester course of study. It will address disparities in healthcare and the social determinants of health. The program is unique in providing an integrated and broad spectrum of contemporary theories and models of practice.

- The social determinants of health and their effect on access to quality healthcare
- The importance of social work research in a healthcare setting
Program Requirements
This certificate requires the completion of 18 two-hour online sessions over the course of two semesters. Assignments include weekly readings and a final learning assessment in the form of a written assignment.
About the Director
Dr. Mary Rzeszut, DSW, LCSW
Dr. Mary Rzeszut is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who holds her Master’s Degree from Fordham University and DSW degree from Walden University. Dr. Rzeszut began her career at NYU Hospital Long Island as a medical social worker and has worked in the areas of renal, oncology, neurology, IBD and presently with the transplant population in inpatient, clinic and physician practice settings. She is presently a psychotherapist in the department of psychiatry specializing in chronic illness, anxiety, depression, grief, and PTSD.
Dr. Rzeszut is a clinical instructor of psychiatry at the NYU Long Island School of Medicine and is a member of the Dean’s executive committee on professional health and wellbeing. In addition, she is the mental health provider for the NYU LISOM medical students where she assists them in developing mindfulness strategies to prevent burnout and build resilience during medical school and professional career. Her research interests include adjustment to chronic disease and professional wellbeing.

ACE is not an approved Continuing Education provider in the states of New York (though NYU Silver is NYSED CE approved in NYS) and West Virginia, unless the event is outside of West VA. ACE only approves individual courses in New Jersey, though NYU Silver is CSWE-accredited and therefore accepted for licensed NJ professionals. Fees & Refund Policy
The cost of this certificate program is $2,130, which includes registration and application fees and the cost of an online compendium of readings.
Available discounts include:
- 25% discount for NYU Silver School of Social Work MSW/DSW/PhD alumni
- 25% discount for practicum instructors currently working with NYU Silver School of Social Work graduate students.
- 15% discount for applicants who have already completed one NYU Silver certificate program.
- 50% discount for veterans.
Please note: discounts may not be combined.
Deposit: Upon acceptance into the program, a $250 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place. This deposit is applied to the total cost of tuition. The $250.00 program deposit is non-refundable. Students that withdraw before the first class will be refunded 100% of their fees (minus the deposit). Students that withdraw after up to and including two (2) sessions will be refunded 70% of their fees (minus the deposit). Students who withdraw after up to and including four (4) sessions will be refunded 55% of their fees (minus the deposit). Students who withdraw after four (4) sessions will receive no refund.
Please note: although the tuition payments are broken down into deposit, fall, and spring installments (a practice meant to create smaller, easier payments for students), the term 'sessions' refers to the entire program. Students who withdraw after four sessions, even if they have not begun the spring semester, are still required to pay their spring semester bills.
