Befriending your Emotions: A Somatic Approach to Healing Emotional Trauma

Emotional trauma can create core wounding. Many people grew up not understanding, not being allowed to express their emotions, or being afraid of their emotions. They are often taught to suppress and not feel emotions when they arise. This can lead to being unable to experience the fullness of life and move towards a path of trauma healing. This training will explore the ways in which emotional trauma shows up in our clients and ourselves. During this training, clinicians will gain awareness of the impact of emotional trauma on the nervous system, the importance of emotions in helping us heal, and concrete skills around embodying our emotions.

As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the ways emotional trauma impacts the nervous system
2. Identify 4 stages of threat/survival response cycle
3. Learn 3 skills around identifying, assessing, and embodying emotions

Farah Morain, LCSW, SEP

Farah Morain, LCSW, SEP is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist in New York City. She holds a Master’s in Social Work from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She worked in the field of community mental health for the past 8 years serving in many different leadership roles: supervising staff and helping individuals with mental illness, and addictions recover and integrate into their communities. She is an executive contributor writer for Brainz Magazine and has been featured on their Brainz 500 Global Awards list for influential leaders dedicated to helping others. Farah currently works in private practice helping clinicians, coaches, and other helping professionals who struggle with complex and developmental trauma, chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, and depression. Using evidenced-based practices and body-oriented techniques, Farah helps individuals learn how to regulate their nervous system, heal from trauma, and find new ways of seeing and being in the world.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:

NYSED and ASWB/ACE approved for 3 Continuing Education Contact Hours.

55 jurisdictions accept ACE-approved provider CE contact hours. ACE is not an approved Continuing Education provider in the states of New York (though NYU Silver is NYSED CE approved in NYS) and West Virginia, unless the event is outside of West VA. ACE only approves individual courses in New Jersey, though NYU Silver is CSWE-accredited and therefore accepted for licensed NJ professionals. Here is a full list of statutes related to social work CE.
