Brief DBT for Loss-related Dysregulation
Overview

Live Online Workshop
Thursday, July 17, 2025
3:00–5:00pm ET
NYSED and ASWB/ACE approved for 2 CE contact hours
While almost all distress benefits from support in regulation practices, grief-related distress can be particularly tricky to manage. As grief is part of a typical attachment process and distress would be considered normative, knowing how and when to intervene—to support but not suffocate the grieving process—requires nuance and skill. In this presentation, Kate Kreider, a noted expert in DBT, will discuss the ways that traditional DBT paradigms—Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness—can be applied to grief in both short and long-term settings. An overview of grief-related distress symptoms and DBT theory will be provided, as well as suggestions for intervention and case studies.
