Eating Disorders: The Non Linear Approach

This training will include learning how to assess, diagnose, and recommend appropriate levels of care for eating disorders, how to treat patients utilizing Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) for adults, and how to treat patients utilizing a family-based therapy (FBT). This course seeks to provide a thorough overview of eating disorders for all types of clinicians to feel more empowered and educated on how to support their patients.
Structure of Course
Part 1:
- Assessment will include a biopsychosocial assessment and what specific questions are important to ask when assessing an Eating Disorder.
- A general overview of ED diagnoses and the nuances of diagnosing
- A review of all levels of care (Inpatient, residential, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, outpatient)
Part 2:
- Review all 4 stages of CBT-E
- Who is appropriate for CBT-E
- Review what is a formulation is and how to utilize it
Part 3:
- Review all 3 phases of FBT
- Provide psycho-education on markers for recovery (return of menstruation, normal labs, overshooting weight, food thoughts, others such as anxiety, depression, ocd, etc.)
Learning Objectives
During this workshop participants will learn:
- Risk factors and what eating disorders are listed in the DSM-5 and are also not listed in the DSM-5.
- Levels of care offered for eating disorders.
- About the medical dangers of eating disorders.
- How to treat eating disorders by discussing evidence based modalities.
Presenter

Zoe Cohen, LCSW
Zoe Cohen is an experienced social worker specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, and depression.
Zoe is trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), and Family Based Treatment (FBT).
Zoe earned her Master of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Currently, she serves as the Director of Clinical Services for Backcountry Wellness Eating Disorder Treatment Centers and as an outpatient therapist for Columbus Park and Conason Psychological Services. She has experience working with patients in residential levels of care, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and outpatient settings.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:
- Refund requests made on or before May 29, 2025 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before June 2, 2025 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after June 3, 2025: no refund
