This webinar is designed to familiarize mental health professionals with treatment strategies incorporating principles from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), an evidence based treatment, which was originally developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD, for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). DBT has now been adapted to various clinical populations, including high conflict families (Fruzzetti, 2018).
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the biological and environmental underpinnings that influence emotional dysregulation in families.
- Grasp the consequences of chronic emotional dysregulation in families.
- Identify at least 1-2 specific strategies for breaking the chain of emotional dysregulation in families.
Presenter
Giselle Colorado, PsyD
Giselle Colorado, PsyD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone–New Jersey. Dr. Colorado has expertise in dialectical behavior therapy, trauma, family systems, and disruptive behavior disorders and presently coordinates the comprehensive Adolescent DBT service for adolescents and their families ages 12-18 in Hackensack, NJ. Dr. Colorado completed Intensive Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy with BehavioralTech, LLC and Charlie Swenson, MD and has extensive experience providing evidence-based treatments to children, adolescents and adults with multi-diagnostic presentations, including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma and disruptive behaviors.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:
- Refund requests made on or before June 11 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before June 16 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after June 17: no refund
