Food for Thought: Increasing Your Awareness of Eating Disorders

Professional relationships: Consider the unique role that the clinician has in order to facilitate comphrensive eating disorder treatment by upholding necessary professional relationships with the treatment team including psychiatrist, primary care and dietitian.
Social work and mental health counseling practice with individuals, couples, families & children: Discuss the way that mental health providers are used in eating disorder treatment to support the individual and family, consider differences between the treatment for children and adults, discuss social work role in higher level of care including onboarding and discharge planning.
Clinical interventions, including EBT's and principles of clinical social work and mental health practice, psychotherapy and clinical social work diagnosis: Review the different eating disorder diagnoses and criteria, consider types of eating disorder treatment (specially CBT-E by Christopher Fairburn).
Cross-disciplinary offerings from medicine, law, administration, education and the behavioral sciences are acceptable if they are clearly related to the enhancement of social work and mental health practice: Learn the medical consequences of eating disorders, learn the types of assessment patient's primary care doctor should be implmenting (i.e. bone density scan, EKG etc.) to help with patient advocacy, discuss principles that dietitian use in meal planning and scheduling, discuss court mandated treatment.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this workshop, participants will:
- Be able to evaluate patients that present with eating disorder symptoms by using The SCOFF Questionnaire along with other assessment tools.
- Have an increased knowledge of 8 different types of eating disorders based on DSM-5.
- Have an increased knowledge of eating disorder risk factors, treatment methods and level of care.
Presenter
Rachel Luckman, PsyD
Rachel Luckman, PsyD (she/her/hers) is a New York State licensed clinical psychologist. She currently provides individual therapy and consulting through her private practice. Dr. Luckman received specialized training in working with individuals with eating disorders at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York University Counseling and Wellness Services. She has provided assessments/evaluations; individual, family and group therapy; multidisciplinary team consultation; and meal exposures for adolescents and adults at inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient levels of care. Dr. Luckman regularly provides case consultation to providers on eating disorders and leads a seminar titled "Food for Thought: Increasing Your Awareness of Eating Disorders" for trainees and providers.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:

- Refund requests made on or before December 6, 2023 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after December 7, 2023: no refund
