This course provides an introduction to the principles of harm reduction as applied to substance use and abuse. Topics covered include: nonjudgmental inquiry, partnership, safety strategies, and skill building.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants will be able to:
- List two ways to demonstrate partnership with substance users.
- State three safety domains that should be addressed when working with substance users.
- Demonstrate non-judgmental inquiry when talking with substance users about their use and interest in making changes.
Presenter
Naomi Weinstein, MPH
Naomi is currently an Independent Consultant with a focus in training and technical assistance in substance abuse, mental health, child welfare, and harm reduction. Her ecent projects include a practice workbook on clinical documentation in behavioral health, development of a background paper: in key issues when involving individuals with lived experience and a Webinar series on data visualization. Prior to this role, Naomi, was the Vice President, Innovations and Development Office at ICL. Here she oversaw all aspects of professional development and implementation of best practices for more than 1200 employees. Prior to this she was the Director, Center on Recovery and RehabilitationDirector, Center on Recovery and Rehabilitation, The Coalition for Behavioral Health. Here she provided training, technical assistance, resources, and other support for NYC-area mental health recovery programs. Prior, she was Director, Center on Addiction and the Family, Center on Addiction and the Family at Phoenix House. Here she directed the Bridges Leadership Institute - a cross-training program to build professional understanding of the intersection of drug treatment, child welfare, and mental health that ran for 10 years. Naomi also held numerous positions at The Children of Alcoholics Foundation. She has a Master's in Public Health from Columbia University.

Cancellations and Refunds
If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:
- Refund requests made on or before May 26, 2022 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before June 1, 2022 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after June 2, 2022: no refund
Refund requests when registered for the full series:
- Refund requests made on or before May 13, 2022 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before May 18, 2022 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after May 19, 2022: no refund
