Hidden in Plain Sight: How to Recognize and Engage Survivors of Human Trafficking

This event will provide a comprehensive analysis of Human Trafficking in the United States, and how to work with survivors. By using a clinical and anti-oppressive lens, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the effects that systems have on survivors and the barriers that survivors face in seeking services and justice.
In addition, participants will learn how to recognize the signs of Human Trafficking, both labor and sex trafficking. Participants will learn how to grow a therapeutic relationship with Human Trafficking survivors and work through any countertransference with survivors of Human Trafficking.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Know the signs of human trafficking (overview of stats, how it happens, how it is stopped) and how it relates to practice.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the effects of systems on Human Trafficking and survivors, and what these mean for practice.
- Learn concrete ways to establish a therapeutic relationship with survivors.
- Be able to work through countertransference with a survivor of human trafficking.
Presenter
Dariela Vasquez, LCSW
Dariela Vasquez, LCSW, is a holistic psychotherapist who earned her MSW from NYU. Dariela established Rockland County’s first Human Trafficking Program in 2015, and has providing services to survivors all around the United States. Dariela is the founder of Planting Seeds of Healing, an integrative holistic movement, center for healing, and commitment one to makes to themselves. Planting one seed at a time, looking at healing through an anti-oppressive lens supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) womxn and communities to radically take back their power, come home to themselves and rise up their authentic whole selves. Dariela is currently conducting research exploring the experience of Latinx childhood survivors of sexual abuse, is an adjunct professor at NYU, and is a writer.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:
- Refund requests made on or before June 17 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before June 21 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after June 23: no refund
