Somatic Self-Regulation in a Crisis
Overview

Online Workshop
Tuesday, December 5, 2023
10:00am - 12:00pm ET
NYSED and ASWB/ACE approved for 2 CE contact hours
Individuals can feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry, confused, afraid, and helpless in a crisis. When you have no control over a situation or event, self-regulation can be difficult. Self-regulation is the ability to manage your emotions, thoughts and adapt your behavior in response to changing circumstances. Often times in a crisis the focus is on the situation, the client, and responding to behaviors presented to increase overall safety. When you are triggered, it can prevent you from being able to assess the situation and provide the necessary support and de-escalation. In this workshop, clinicians will understand what is happening with their clients and themselves internally during a crisis, how to manage their response, and learn skills around self-regulation. By learning how to increase internal and external safety during a crisis, individuals can feel a sense of stability and support which prevent the symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that can lead to burnout and re-traumatization.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand how to assess and regulate one's own emotional and physiological state.
- Identify 4 ways individuals respond during a crisis.
- Learn and apply at least 3 skills to self-regulate in a crisis.
