Warning Signs, Inaccuracies, and Treatment (WIT): Using the WIT Model to Challenge Stigma in the Treatment of Schizophrenia

This workshop will provide in-depth knowledge, exploration, and interactive portions to combat misunderstandings and misconceptions about schizophrenia. The presentation covers warning signs of the illness, treatment, and inaccuracies in care. The content will cover community referrals and work to increase connection for an often marginalized clinical population. An interactive portion will teach communication skills in working with people with Schizophrenia.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify at least 4 warning signs of early development of schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses.
- Understand treatment for schizophrenia and at least 2 to 3 referral resources in the community.
- Decrease attendee stigma by 10% by increasing understanding and knowledge of schizophrenia and illness.
Presenter
Hilary Kaul, LCSW
Hilary Kaul, LCSW, holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Richmond and an MSW from Boston College. Hilary is currently in New York University's DSW Program with an expected graduation in 2026. She also completed a two-year training program at Ackerman Institute for the Family. Hilary has extensive experience working with individuals and families in a variety of inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. She is currently the Director of National Admission and NYC OperaIons at Ellenhorn LLC, a private Program of Assertive Community Treatment Team (PACT) working to support clients with high-risk and complex psychiatric needs living in the least restrictive settings. Hilary also maintains a private practice seeing individuals and families for therapy and case management needs. Before living in New York City, Hilary worked at Mclean Hospital developing a pilot day treatment program and a first-episode psychosis clinic. She is passionate about working collaboratively with clients and families in the new onset of mental health diagnoses.

If after registering, you determine that you can no longer attend this event, The Office of Global and Lifelong Learning will issue refunds on the following basis:
- Refund requests made on or before April 18, 2025 (by midnight): full refund
- Refund requests made on or before April 22 2025 (by midnight): 50% refund
- Refund requests made on or after April 23, 2025: no refund
