The inclusion of Mindfulness as the “hub” of an evidenced based treatment approach is unique to Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy. DBT was originally developed to reduce suicidal urges among populations challenged by constant emotion dysregulation. While skills from its modules of Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance are all valuable tools for those seeking to moderate emotional states, the achievement of Wise Mind is the basis from which such skills may be most effective.
Learning Goals
- Participants will be able to describe the DBT view of Mindfulness and why it is the core of DBT skills;
Participants will understand the value and centrality of Mindfulness for those struggling with emotion dysregulation; and
Participants will be able to name and engage in several Core Mindfulness exercises and generalize this experience to client interactions in their practices.
