Overview

Young boy gazing from behind a locked fence

Social Work with Immigrant Survivors of Torture and Abuse: HealthRight International's Human Rights Clinic

Self-Study
NYSED and ASWB/ACE Approved for 1 CE Contact Hour

Live Webinar originally aired on April 13, 2016

The videotaped presentation will be viewable online from a computer via streaming video. Once your registration and payment is received, a link will be forwarded for access to the video and instructions for taking a post-test. All online continuing education programs require completion of a post-test for receipt of credits.

Globally, more people have been displaced today than at any time since World War II. Each year thousands of survivors fleeing torture, persecution and other human rights abuses seek safety in the U.S. and are faced with the complex and restrictive U.S. immigration process, forced to prove their suffering in order to gain protection from future harm. Through the lens of HealthRight International's Human Rights Clinic (HRC), this webinar will focus on the many roles that social workers can play in assisting and bearing witness to immigrant survivors' experiences as they seek asylum and other immigration relief--from providing evaluations to document trauma and abuse, offering expert testimony in immigration proceedings, assessing and linking survivors with needed medical, mental health and psychosocial supports, and advocating for survivors' needs at all levels.
