Fathers’ involvement in the lives of children has routinely shown to have positive outcomes across social-emotional, behavioral and cognitive domains. With increased attention to the role fathers play in child development, it is imperative clinicians gain knowledge and skills to effectively treat and engage fathers as an integral member of the family system, work toward mitigating barriers and to understand the dynamics of the co-parenting relationship on family cohesion and resilience.
The workshop will offer an overview of fatherhood, working with men as fathers, engaging fathers in practice, barriers to treatment and sustaining father-inclusiveness to support families.
Learning Goals
Participants will be able to:
Gain understanding about the concept of responsible fatherhood.
Increase knowledge regarding the impact of father presence on child-wellbeing and development.
Identify barriers that impede paternal presence.
Develop skills for identifying, engaging and creating father-inclusive practice.
