Evidence-Based Practice Specialization
Approximately 14 million adults in the United States have been diagnosed with a Serious Mental Illness (SMI), such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Treating people with SMI with practices backed by rigorous research and clinical trials can lead to better overall outcomes, including reduced hospitalizations, improved daily functioning, and stronger community connections.
As part of the New York State Office of Mental Health to Schools of Social Work Project for Evidence-Based Practice in Mental Health, NYU Silver MSW students entering their specialized practice year may join the Evidence-Based Practice Specialization. Through a practicum placement, academic coursework, and colloquia, students will receive advanced training for careers providing recovery oriented EBPs for adults diagnosed with SMI.
Students may enter this specialization in their Specialized Practice year. Matriculated MSW students will receive application information from the MSW Program Office and Office of Practicum Education & Community Partnerships.
