FAQs
Field Learning & Community Partnership (FL&CP) identifies and coordinates all Field placements to ensure the best possible fit for the student’s professional growth and development. NYU Silver partners with more than 600 agencies in the tri-state area. If you are interested in an agency that does not currently partner with us, you can provide the contact information to FL&CP and we will evaluate the fit of the potential new agency.
During MSW students’ Generalist Practice (first) year, the focus is on generalist social work practice and students are placed accordingly by FL&CP. In the Specialized Practice (second year), the focus is on the student’s selected method of concentration and field of practice. At that time, students have the opportunity to indicate preferences and the FL&CP staff will coordinate a suitable placement that will facilitate the development of a specialized skill set.
During BS students’ Field Experience and Field Work, the focus is on generalist social work practice and students are placed accordingly by the Field Learning Office. Consideration is given to students' area of interest.
