Health Practice Area

Examples of settings include hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and community-based health services. Social work students will have the opportunity to practice with individuals and families and will be a member of the interprofessional teams in integrated care settings. Some field placement assignments may work with specialty areas and issues such as HIV/AIDS, pediatrics, trauma, and medical/surgical. Learning opportunities include assessment, intervention, problem-solving, crisis intervention, grief theory, short-term treatment, after-care, and follow-up. Services may take place in the office, in a healthcare facility, community, or client’s home.
