Welcome
As the Silver School’s inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), I am responsible for advancing the School’s DEI initiatives and working closely with a variety of partners to promote a more diverse and inclusive environment. I am committed to providing strategic leadership to support the continued development of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching, research, practicum experience, scholarship, and learning.

Prior to joining NYU Silver, Richeleen Dashield served for nine years as Dean for Multicultural Affairs at Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey, and was Director of Social Equity at West Chester University in Pennsylvania from 2004 to 2010. She also held leadership positions at Kean University. Dr. Dashield holds an MBA in Human Resources from Rutgers University and an EdD in Educational Services and Leadership from Rowan University, where her dissertation examined diversity accountability in higher education. Dr. Dashield has received many awards and recognitions for her leadership on diversity and equity in higher education and has delivered numerous presentations on these topics locally and globally.

NYU Silver is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in every aspect of our mission to prepare students for social work practice and scholarship with excellence and impact. In recognition of our sustained efforts to implement inclusive and equitable practices, Insight Into Diversity magazine presented the School the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. Notably, NYU Silver is the only school of social work in the country to be named a HEED Award recipient this year.
