Areas of Need
Gifts from alumni and friends fill a critical funding niche in helping the Silver School of Social Work offer talented students access to a world-class education, and maintaining a level of excellence across the School’s academic spectrum.
Areas where gifts are needed most include:
- Undergraduate scholarships: Gifts for scholarships help attract promising students and ease the burden of rising tuition.
- Graduate fellowships: Graduate and professional students contribute greatly to the Silver School’s intellectual community. They conduct research, lead outreach efforts, and complete project-based learning activities while developing into experts in their fields. Endowing fellowships allows donors to direct their giving where it's most meaningful for them.
- Faculty support: Top teachers and researchers are the lifeblood of the University and the Silver School. Gifts ensure excellence through endowed chairs and professorships, and faculty development. Private support often provides seed funding that launches path-breaking research into some of the world's most pressing issues.
Types of Gifts
The Silver School relies on alumni and friends to contribute on an annual basis to support students and programs at the school.
Student Scholarships and Fellowships
Scholarship and fellowship support enhances the School’s ability to reward outstanding students and may provide student aid based on merit or financial need.
Chairs and Professorships
A named chair or professorship recognizes scholarly excellence and is the highest honor the School can bestow upon its faculty.
An endowment is vital because it provides a lifetime source of income that continues to grow over time. In addition to providing permanent and everlasting support for the Silver School of Social Work, it secures your legacy at NYU forever. Endowment funds are strategically invested by NYU, and the Silver School receives a portion of the earnings every year. An endowment may be named for an individual, a family, or someone the donor wishes to honor.
