Biography

Anne Dempsey is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Silver, teaching the Integrated Practice and Field Learning curriculum and Seminar in Field Instruction. She also oversees MSW field placements in the Child, Youth, and Family area, and co-directs the Social Work Practice with Youth and Families Focused Learning Opportunity. Dr. Dempsey’s interests include teaching and learning in social work education, the use of simulation and technology in the classroom, psychotherapy, chronic illness, and trauma.

She has worked with children, youth, and families at the Center for Family Life, as well as in mental health and health care settings, with a focus on chronic illness and chronic pain, and in private practice. She has served as an elected member of the School Leadership Team at an NYC DOE public school, and as a volunteer mental health evaluator for the Human Rights Clinic of Healthright International. In 2018, Dr. Dempsey was awarded a Curriculum Development Challenge Fund Grant entitled OSCE Implementation in Practice and Field Integrated Curriculum.

Dr. Dempsey earned her DSW from NYU Silver, her MSW from the Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work, and her BA from the University of Richmond. She received a certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education.
