Professor Deborah Padgett Travels to London to Discuss Housing First

Professor Deborah Padgett traveled to London to give a talk on Housing First approaches to ending chronic homelessness on September 30, 2011. The lecture, sponsored by the National Centre for Social Research, was part of a panel held at historic Toynbee Hall where the social reform settlement movement began in 1884. Padgett gave a summary of research on the model, including her latest study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Padgett's presentation led to discussions of ways to implement the Housing First model in the United Kingdom. This model, which originated in New York City at Pathways to Housing, Inc., is being implemented in five cities nationally in Canada and will soon be tested in 20 European cities in an experimental program funded by the European Commission.
