Dr. Kathleen M. Wade (MSW '84) Receives SSWLHC'S 2016 Ida M. Cannon Award

Silver School alumna Kathleen M. Wade, PhD, LMSW, ACSW received the 2016 Ida M. Cannon Award for outstanding contributions to the leadership of social work in a health care setting from the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care (SSWLHC). The award is SSWLHC’s highest honor and pays tribute to the memory of Ms. Cannon, who organized the first social work department in an acute care medical setting. Candidates must be widely recognized leaders in the field of health care social work and demonstrate the commitment to sound social work practice and strong patient advocacy that distinguished Ms. Cannon.

Dr. Wade is currently Associate Hospital Administrator and Director of Social Work at the University of Michigan Health System as well as the Assistant Dean for Hospital Social Work and LEO Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She is widely published on health social work issues and is on the editorial board of the journal Social Work in Health Care. The Ida M. Cannon award is just the latest of many prestigious honors she has received in her 30-plus year career, including SSWLHC’s Eleanor Clark Award for Innovative Program Development in Patient Care and Social Work Leader of the Year Award.

Dr. Wade received her MSW from NYU in 1984. She later received her PhD in Social Welfare from the City University of New York.
