Associate Professor Dr. Michelle R. Munson has been invited to speak at the University of Massachusetts Medical School on December 1, 2016, as part of the Systems and Psychosocial Advances Research Center’s (SPARC) Research Seminar Series.

Dr. Munson’s seminar, entitled “Intervention Development: Integration of Mentoring and Peer Support for Young Adults with Mental Health Conditions,” will highlight the context and experiences of transition-age youth living with mental health conditions, and will describe two intervention programs that incorporate recovery role models to improve such young adults’ engagement and overall health and wellness.

SPARC is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and academic and community partners, including the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where it is based. It aims to conduct research and develop knowledge to enhance the mental and behavioral health of residents of Massachusetts and beyond. The center’s quarterly Research Seminar Series “features leading scholars presenting their research, discussing emerging policy implications, and identifying future directions regarding mental health research.”

Dr. Munson is a nationally recognized expert in mental health services and interventions for young adults. She directs NYU Silver’s Youth and Young Adult Mental Health Group, is on the editorial board of the journal Emerging Adulthood, and has been an invited expert reviewer for the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, William T. Grant Foundation, and the Institute of Medicine's report on health and well being of young adults. Dr. Munson's research seeks to develop, refine, and test interventions for adolescents and young adults with serious mental health conditions.
