Univision Spotlights Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos in Hispanic Heritage Month Feature

To celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, Univision featured Silver Professor and Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health (CLAFH) Co-Director Dr. Vincent Guilamo-Ramos in a story asking leading Hispanics in health care what their culture means to them and how it influences their work.

Dr. Guilamo-Ramos explained, "As a child growing up, I was fortunate to be immersed in a strong Latino community and culture. Being a proud Latino means knowing who you are, where you come from and being clear about your abilities and purpose in life. This was the case for me…Despite my family’s resource limitations, my mother always instilled in me a strong value for educational achievement and conveyed the importance of contributing to the betterment of the Latino community."

Dr. Guilamo-Ramos also cited the work he and his colleagues at CLAFH do to address the needs of Latino adolescents and their families, and to promote the role parents play in helping their children stay healthy.
