Dr. Alma Carten, who is retiring after more than three decades from the full-time faculty of NYU Silver School of Social Work, has donated her extensive collection of social work publications to the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) Workforce Institute Professional Development Program.

A former interim commissioner of the Child Welfare Administration, as the New York City public child welfare agency was once named, and a member of the Mayor’s Foster Care Commission, Dr. Carten has worked with the Professional Development Program for many years advancing initiatives to support the professionalization of the city's child welfare workforce.

In accepting the donation, Norma Urigüen, recently appointed to head the Professional Development Program at the ACS Workforce Institute said, “We envision that this collection of journals and books will be a first step in launching a library for our staff that will provide easy access to research and publications and help them keep abreast of new knowledge to support best practices in child welfare. We are grateful for Dr. Carten’s most generous gift which will support our culture of learning.”
