Dr. Wen-Jui Han Appointed Co-Editor-In-Chief of International Journal of Social Welfare
The Board of Directors for the International Journal of Social Welfare appointed NYU Silver Professor Wen-Jui Han as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Han shares editorial responsibilities for this highly ranked and influential publication in the field of social work and social welfare with longtime Editor-in-Chief Åke Bergmark, a Professor at Stockholm University’s Department of Social Work.
Dr. Han, who joined the NYU Silver faculty in 2011, is nationally and internationally recognized for her research on the effects of parental employment, family and school environment, and family policies on children’s development in general and on children of immigrants in particular. She is also a foremost researcher on the impact of parental work schedules on children’s cognitive, social, and emotional well-being. Her current research, using data from nine countries, focuses on cross-country comparisons of precarious parental work on children’s well-being in the hopes of reshaping our public policy response to not only enhance the well-being of families and children for the United States and beyond but also reduce intergenerational health and economic inequality.
Dr. Han currently serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Marriage and Family and Social Service Review, is a referee for nearly two-dozen other journals, and has received Outstanding Reviewer honors from The American Educational Research Journal, Children and Youth Services Review, and Journal of Marriage and Family. Her own scholarship has been widely published in journals including American Journal of Public Health, Child Development, Demography, Developmental Psychology, and Early Childhood Research Quarterly.
The International Journal of Social Welfare publishes original articles in English on social welfare and social work that focus on migration, economy, policy, health, gender, age, class, and mental health. Its interdisciplinary approach and comparative perspective promote examination of the most pressing social welfare issues of the day by researchers from the various branches of the applied social sciences.
