Celebrating the Class of 2020
Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused our May 2020 Convocation ceremony to be postponed until it is safe to celebrate in-person, as a larger community of Silver students, faculty, colleagues, family and friends, we still found ways to celebrate our remarkable, resilient Class of 2020.
On the morning of May 19, 2020, the day our ceremony was originally scheduled, we shared a celebratory, pre-recorded Tribute to the Silver Class of 2020 video featuring memories, sage advice, and a song from select faculty, staff, and members of the graduating class. Later that day, hundreds of graduates gathered over Zoom to “toast” friends and fellow classmates while sharing some of their favorite Silver stories. And the following day, the University hosted a virtual, NYU-wide celebration of the class for graduates and their families. Moreover, throughout both days of virtual festivities, graduates were invited to tag their celebratory social media posts with #NYUSilverGrads so that their pictures and messages populated a social media wall set up expressly for them.

NYU Silver Class of 2020 Tribute Video
Our Class of 2020 was truly special. When the pandemic forced all instruction online, our soon-to-be graduates met the challenge of completing their rigorous coursework and Field learning with creativity and grace. Moreover, many of them found ways to serve those most affected by the pandemic. In his own congratulatory message, NYU President Andrew Hamilton observed, “Class of 2020, the same qualities that led you to choose NYU Silver as your academic home will help you make a difference in the world as alumni... The world needs your talents as it begins the task of healing, and I can't wait to see the ways you find to make an impact for the better.”
