Class of 2021 MSW student Kristen Yates was awarded a 2020 Diana List Cullen Memorial First Year MSW Student Writing Scholarship from the Metropolitan Chapter of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work (NYSSCSW). The paper for which Kristen received the award describes her work with a child and parent in her first year field placement at University Settlement’s short-term crisis intervention program.
The paper, Kristen said, “reflected on themes that arose in my work with the family, including the impact of trauma in infancy and early childhood, resilience, and family dynamics and engagement, as well as some of my interventions with the child and parent. It brought together what I learned about engagement and working with families in Professor Pia Raymond’s Practice I class and what I learned about trauma in Professor Diane Mirabito's elective Core Concepts in Child and Adolescent Trauma.”
