The NYU Silver School of Social Work has long promoted the mental health of children, youth and families in our education, practice and scholarship. Young people in our city and nationally are experiencing increasing rates of mental health challenges, and the need to address them is urgent. Furthermore, contributing toward the training and staffing of New York City’s mental health workforce is a key part of our mission.
Therefore, we commend Mayor Adams’ plan to prioritize prevention and care for youth, especially in communities that have been marginalized and disproportionately impacted by the effects of the pandemic.
Investing toward good mental health in all communities is important in order for New York to thrive, now and in the future.
