NYU Silver School of Social Work issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. vs. President and Fellows of Harvard College related to the use of race as a factor in university admissions.
In light of today’s Supreme Court’s decision about higher education admissions, the NYU Silver School of Social Work affirms that we remain committed to providing a world-class education that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We firmly believe that diversity within our student population leads to academic excellence for all of our students.
This stance is consistent with the core values of the social work profession, to which we adhere. As the National Association of Social Workers states in their preamble, “Social workers are sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and strive to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice,” with education being among the activities through which these values are expressed.
We will not waver in our commitment to those values as we welcome each new class of students to NYU Silver.
