New York, NY – Clinical Associate Professor Peggy Morton has been appointed NYU Silver’s Undergraduate Program Director effective July 15, 2024. Dr. Morton succeeds Clinical Associate Professor Cora de Leon, who is now Director of the School’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. “Since joining NYU Silver’s faculty in 2000, Dr. Morton has been a dedicated teacher, scholar and academic administrator,” said Dean Michael A. Lindsey. “She is an outstanding successor to lead the School’s bachelors program.”
Dr. Morton has taught and been a faculty advisor in NYU Silver’s Bachelor of Science in social work (BS) and MSW programs and has been a capstone committee member in the Doctorate in Clinical Social Work (DSW) program. From 2013 to 2019, Dr. Morton served as the School’s Assistant Dean for Practicum Education and Community Partnerships and she was the Undergraduate Practicum Coordinator for seven years before that. Dr. Morton has also developed and taught University-wide undergraduate service learning courses, combining academic study with community service to strengthen students’ capacity as service-oriented global citizens. Moreover, she has served as a faculty affiliate to five undergraduate dorms.
Beginning in 2017, Dr. Morton facilitated an innovative practicum partnership between NYU Silver and the New York Public Library system, placing MSW students in selected branches to assist low-income and homeless patrons. That initiative has since expanded to include more branches and additional schools of social work. Dr. Morton continues to serve as a practicum instructor for NYU Silver students in library placements.
Dr. Morton earned her MSW and DSW from Hunter College School of Social Work (CUNY). Her areas of expertise include gerontology, pregnancy loss, practicum education and service learning, and library-based social work. She is a faculty affiliate at NYU Silver’s Center for Health and Aging Innovation (CHAI) and her practice experience spans clinical work with children and adolescents, the elderly, and terminally ill patients and their families in both private and public settings.
