Advancing child well-being by promoting the social conditions in which all children can flourish has been a mission for Professor Ramesh Raghavan since he and his colleague Anna Alexandrova published the scholarly article “Toward a Theory of Child Well-Being” in 2015. The nation’s top nonprofit focused on child welfare recently updated its mission to take up that mantle as well, based explicitly on Drs. Raghavan and Alexandrova’s scholarship.
Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) President and CEO Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson began his announcement of the organization’s refreshed mission statement – “Children’s Defense Fund builds community so young people grow up with dignity, hope, and joy” – by citing Drs. Raghavan and Alexandrova’s scholarship. He explained that over the years, CDF constituents, supporters and partners, including Dr. Raghavan himself, explored the ideas that Drs. Raghavan and Alexandrova shared about child well-being and helped shape the organization’s new statement.
