New York, NY, October 3, 2024 — NYU Silver School of Social Work has received the 2024 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
As a recipient of the annual HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — NYU Silver will be featured in the November/December 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine, along with 113 other recipients. Notably, NYU Silver is the only school of social work to be named a HEED Award recipient this year.
“NYU Silver is proud to receive this national recognition of our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in every aspect of our mission to prepare students for social work practice and scholarship with excellence and impact,” said Dean Michael A. Lindsey. “This includes establishing an array of processes, systems and resources that embed a social justice ethos in our curriculum, teaching, support for students, research, recruitment, retention and administration.” Dean Lindsey also recognized Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Dr. Richeleen Dashield, for spearheading the School’s successful application for the HEED Award and for her department’s ongoing leadership in championing inclusive and equitable practices at NYU Silver.
“Insight Into Diversity magazine selected NYU Silver for its extensive, sustained efforts to implement inclusive and equitable practices that are in alignment with core values of the social work profession,” Dr. Dashield said. “This honor reflects the collective efforts of our community to build a nationally-recognized model of inclusive excellence where diversity, equity, and inclusion connect with every facet of the Silver community.”
“The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for both — leadership support for diversity, campus culture and climate, supplier diversity, and many other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”
