NYU Silver’s Reducing Inequality Network Fellows Khadija S. Israel, Aanchal Modani, and Brittney Singletary
New York, NY – Addressing the causes and consequences of inequality is fundamental to social work’s social justice mission. Toward that end, NYU Silver Assistant Professor Dale Dagar Maglalang co-leads the New York City Reducing Inequality Network (RIN). Since 2018, the collaboration between social science scholars at NYU, Columbia University and the CUNY Graduate Center has been providing funding and mentorship opportunities to doctoral students whose research focuses on solutions to persistent inequities. The William T. Grant Foundation, which has funded RIN along with the participating universities since its founding, recently renewed a $50,000 grant for another five years.
Dr. Maglalang said the renewed funding will enable RIN to support a new cohort of Inequality Fellows, doctoral students whose research is focused on reducing inequality. The Fellows each receive a $5,000 stipend to support their research, attend meetings to present their work and network with other students and faculty in the RIN program, and receive additional guidance and mentorship from RIN faculty across the three universities. Current NYU Silver RIN Inequality Fellows are PhD candidates Khadija S. Israel, Aanchal Modani and Brittney Singletary.
Dr. Maglalang succeeded Dean Michael A. Lindsey as NYU Silver’s Principal Investigator on the RIN project. The co-Principal Investigator is CUNY Graduate Center Presidential Professor of Sociology and Political Science Leslie McCall.
