Lori Landman, MSW ’96, Field Coordinator/Faculty Advisor
Lori Landman, an MSW Class of 1996 NYU Silver alum, joined our Office of Field Learning and Community Partnerships in May 2006. She began at our Washington Square campus, assisting in the placement of students in NYC agencies. In early 2008, she was given the role of New Jersey Field Coordinator, placing all of the students who attend the Washington Square campus but live in NJ. A few years later, in 2013, her role expanded to include the placement of all students at the Rockland County campus as well. She has also been a Faculty Advisor for second year MSW students from the time she started through today.
After more than 15 years as part of our Field Learning department, Professor Landman said “I still enjoy it after all these years. I love working with the students and seeing their growth and development as well as their enthusiasm. When problems arise, it is challenging but rewarding when they can be resolved. I greatly enjoy the community partnerships that I have developed and the new ones that are added each year.”
During her tenure, Professor Landman has built partnerships with NJ and Rockland agencies in all areas of social work practice. “While I work with so many wonderful places,” she said, “some that I particularly like are the college counseling centers. They are interesting and great learning experiences!” She added “Field work is very important as it provides an opportunity for students to apply what they are learning in class to real life situations and clients. It is great to be a part of that process.”
Reflecting on her time at Silver, Professor Landman said, “I loved NYU Silver as a student, and have enjoyed working in the Field Learning department very much. It's a great, collaborative team. Being part of the Rockland community is wonderful as well. What is most satisfying to me is being contacted by former students who I placed and advised who now want to host interns!”
