Below you will find a small sample of notable scholarships and organizations that have offered scholarship awards to NYU Silver MSW students.
Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund
The Latino Social Work Coalition provides scholarships to Latino/Hispanic students with significant economic need who are pursuing a master’s degree in social work. Each student selected for a Latino Social Work Council Scholarship Fund receives from $500 to $1500 depending on availability.
- All applicants must be residents of New York State for purposes of applying for these scholarships.
- Students must be in good academic standing.
- Applicants must demonstrate commitment to working with the Latino community upon completion of graduate studies and sign a letter of acknowledgment.
- Prior work and/or volunteer experience or practicum in human services and working with underserved communities is desirable but not required.
- Bilingual students are strongly encouraged to apply.
- All scholarship decisions are final.

CSWE Minority Fellowship Program–Master’s Students
The master’s MFP is designed to enhance the training of full-time, master’s-level social work students passionate about meeting the mental health needs of BIPOC communities, in their final year of study at a CSWE-accredited institution. Applicants must identify mental health and/or substance use disorder service delivery to racial/ethnic minority populations as their focus and be committed to seeking employment in mental health and/or substance use disorder services or prevention with the target population immediately after graduation, for at least 2 years.

APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program
Funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), IMFP supports the training of ethnic minority graduate students who commit to significantly improving the quality of care provided to ethnic and racial minorities who have a mental or co-occurring mental and substance use disorder.

Giva Student Scholarship
Giva's Corporate Student Scholarship and Worldwide Community Ambassador Award is for anyone attending a college or university worldwide. This scholarship grant is aimed at assisting undergraduate and graduate students to further their education and expand their social responsibility and community service footprint in the world. Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship Program
An opportunity for full-time New York City local government employees (employed by a City agency) with undergraduate degrees to study at accredited colleges/universities in the metropolitan area. The Silver School funds a maximum of five new MSW and DSW students at up to 50% tuition only reduction scholarship. Please review the Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship Program website for more information.
Applicants to the Mayor's Graduate Scholarship Program will receive a decision on their scholarship application by early May.
Nassau/Suffolk Association of Black Social Workers Scholarship
The Nassau Suffolk Association of Black Social Workers has established a scholarship fund to provide financial support to social work students of Black/African ancestry. The applicant must be either: a Long Island resident attending a social work education program on Long Island or in NYC OR a NYC resident attending a Long Island social work education program. Students can find the scholarship application information and instructions on their website.
The Brooklyn Section of National Council of Jewish Women, Inc.
The Brooklyn Section of National Council of Jewish Women, Inc. is offering their annual Social Work scholarship. They offer this one-time scholarship to a student who will attend an accredited Social Work program, graduating in June 2023 or in June 2024. This scholarship is being offered to a New York City Resident.
Brooklyn Section, NCJW, Inc. is a non-gender, non-denominational organization devoted to improving the quality of life for women, children and families.
- Academic excellence indicated by the applicant's high school transcript and undergraduate and/or graduate transcript(s).
- Three letters of reference from supervisors or faculty members.
- A letter from the applicant stating community service, educational plans and career goals.

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) awards two $500 scholarships to students in their final year of an MSW program at a CSWE-accredited program. Applicants from the following ethnic groups are eligible to apply: Puerto Rican, Asian American, American Indian, African American, and Mexican American.
New York University is one of a handful of universities that offers the Dalai Lama Fellowship, a global program authorized by the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. Candidates between the ages of 20-35 years old will be chosen who are currently engaged (or have well-articulated plans) for a social change project in one’s local community and sustained engagement throughout the fellowship year. The candidate must process in-depth knowledge of the community and the issue that the project is seeking to address, preferably with at least one year of previous experience working with the community. Undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who will be enrolled full-time at NYU are invited to apply.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund aids people active in movements for social and economic justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students who are active in the progressive movement. Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism and for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity. Applicants must have participated in activities in the US, and there is a strong preference for applicants who plan on working in this country.
International Educational Exchange Program
Fulbright offers competitive, merit-based grants for students, scholars, teachers, professionals and groups. Grants are available for US citizens to go abroad and for foreign (non-US) citizens to come to the US.

Consuelo Gosnell Memorial Scholarship: The Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to master's degree candidates in social work who have demonstrated a commitment to working with, or who have a special affinity with, American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations.
Verne LaMarr Lyons Memorial MSW Scholarship: For MSW students who demonstrate an interest in, or have experience with, health/mental health practice and have a commitment to working in the African American community. One scholarship of up to $2,000 will be awarded.

The UNICO Foundation will grant two awards for graduate scholarships. The awardee must be initiating graduate study, full-time, at an accredited campus based college/university program in the United States. A candidate must be a United States citizen of Italian descent.

The Traub-Dicker Rainbow Scholarship was established by Peggy Traub and Phyllis Dicker to encourage and support women-identified lesbians in their pursuit of higher education. This program provides one-year scholarships to those graduating high school or already enrolled in college in any year of study, including graduate school.
UJA Federation of New York Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of two years and must be used toward tuition or related educational expenses. Scholarships are for students committed to a career at the UJA Federation of New York or a career in the broader Jewish communal sector.
